I can't remember when I first started making hats for my local village pantomime. Scary witches' peaks, pretty princess crowns, foreboding pirates' hats, charming grannies' bonnets, feathered Haiwatha headdresses, over-the-top stage crowns … I've made them all. After creating a large historically correct headpiece with a massive plume of white feathers as a stand-out piece for an exhibition, I was chuffed when a re-enactor couldn't resist it. My smaller pieces are ideal for bridesmaids: instead of one-wear flower-girl crowns, they can be worn to parties over and over again. And my shimmery, beaded bands and clips add a touch of glitz to hair, including up-dos.
